The Senior Manager, Public Affairs & Corporate Communication, Janssen Pharmaceuticals Japan is a critical senior leadership role, responsible for accelerating our public affairs and patient advocacy efforts as well as building the corporate reputation of Janssen Pharmaceuticals K.K. Working closely with Integrated Market Access (IMAT) , Medical Affairs (MAF) , Asia Pacific (AP) Public Affairs & Patient Advocacy, global R&D and Johnson & Johnson enterprise communications, the role will be a key driver of Janssen Japan's external stakeholder engagement for reputation building, policy shaping, and patient engagement to shape our operating environment. The newly created role will be a core member of Japan Communication & Public Affairs(C&PA) Team, * Develop, lead, and execute innovative public affairs strategies and execution that shape our operating environment and increase patient access to ourportfolio of innovative medicines in Japan. * Partner with Japan IMAT and MAF to identify, develop and execute Japan public affairs strategies. * Work closely with AP Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy to develop scalable public affairs campaign and patient activation initiatives. * Serve as strategic counsel to Head of Japan C&PA on public affairs challenges and opportunities in Japan * Engage and represent the company's interests with local trade associations and industry bodies * Develop, lead, and execute a Corporate Communication strategy that enhances Janssen's reputation in society. * Develop an on-going body of work that drives forward our thought leadership in areas of market access, pricing, domestic investment, intellectual property and innovation * Build trust in society by showcasing on-going novel initiatives in science, policy, corporate social responsibility and our efforts to ensure access toinnovative medicines. * Lead corporate media relations and maintain strong on-going relationships with critical journalists and media outlets in partnership with our Therapeutic Area communication team members * Build, strengthen and create relationships with critical partners, key patient groups, advocates, NGOs, academics etc. to advance our publicaffairs interests * Guide and deploy the investment of our resources to rapidly build and strengthen our teams' public affairs and patient advocacy capabilities across Japan C&PA, collaborating with Regional C&PA * Help our business partners better understand how public affairs strategies can be utilized and deployed in their businesses * Upskill our business partners and senior business leaders to understand what public affairs is and the opportunities best-in-class public affairs capabilities can afford our organization * Deploy global/regional training approaches and methodologies to embed public affairs as a core capability of Japan C&PA * Identify appropriate local agencies and external experts to strengthen our organization's capabilities in this space * Enable the team to move towards an end-state where public affairs is a core competency for appropriate roles across the entire team (not just the domain of specialists) * Nurture and develop our emerging patient advocacy capabilities in Japan * Have leadership responsibility for our patient advocacy efforts in Japan * Partner closely with MAF, key marketing and commercial excellence leadership to champion the role of the patient voice in driving our decision making and strategy * Champion the voice of patients across all forums within the company - helping bring the outside in, and identify opportunities for our teams to interact more frequently and meaningfully with patient advocates * Develop and manage a small team (initially starting with one headcount) * Hire and develop the team by coaching, clearly communicating direction and priorities, and ensuring resourcing and execution to enable effective execution. * Be hands-on, multitasking, and managing all necessary resources including PR agencies, budgets, team resource allocation and quality control. * Actively represent Japan and engage with local and regional teams across Johnson & Johnson * Serve as an active and engaged member of Japan C&PA Team - building a strong function across team * Work across sector lines in to communicate powerfully as one Johnson & Johnson at key opportunities that include policy shaping, key partnership with government officials, academia, patient groups and NGO/NPO etc,. Competencies * Quick learner and proactive enthusiastic self-starter with high energy and motivation as well as serious commitment to hard work and excellence; * Results-oriented, eager to win with strategic thinking and capable of tracking processes to ensure programmes are delivered in line with expectations and desired results; * Logical and critical thinking; * Higher compliance and professional behaviors to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion; * Able to juggle multiple priorities, take direction and be accountable for delivering in timely manner; * Team development and management - coaching, inspiring, and developing necessary capabilities ; * Higher maturity and ability to manager pressure. * Deliver result under the complex environments with involvement of multiple stakeholders and multiple tasking. Requirements * Bachelor's degree and above; advanced degree preferred * 8-12 years working experience in public affairs and media relations or government officials * Strong public affairs experience required * Great corporate communication experience required * Healthcare industry experience preferred * Proactive attitude to identify and address opportunities * Strategic thinker with ability to develop robust strategies to shape our operating environment - as well as our capabilities as a team to do so * English written, verbal and visual communication skills is a must * Exceptional communication and coordination skills in a complex organization with proven success navigating among multiple stakeholders * Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to independently manage multiple projects simultaneously across geographies and time zones * Proven leadership skills * Ability to balance short- and long-term priorities * Budget and agency management experience * Crisis management experience
