WiTricity is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in mechanical design and power electronics in the automotive industry. You will be a member of our product team in the Greater Tokyo Area implementing our next generation of Wireless Charging products to power the global deployment of Electric Vehicles.You will be responsible for understanding customer requirements, leading internal mechanical teams, and interfacing with OEM customers. You will also be involved in the design, development, and testing of power electronics components for automotive applications. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, leadership experience, and bi-lingual proficiency in Japanese and English. Responsibilities: Lead and coordinate engineering teams to deliver high-quality automotive power electronics and mechanical designs to automotive OEM customers. Translate customer specifications into internal engineering requirements and design specifications to ensure customer requirements are met. Prepare and present technical documentation and status reports to internal teams and external customers. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams. Educate others and breakdown complex engineering problems into simple pieces that can be tackled by fundamentals. Works with a cross-functional team productizing and delivering next generation wireless charging products for passenger electric vehicles. The global team includes internal and external resources responsible for product engineering, design, analysis, quality assurance, test, packaging, regulatory, and manufacturing. Assist in developing detailed mechanical engineering requirements taking into consideration product functionality and ideation, performance, cost, and manufacturability. Work closely with the internal global Mechanical team and adjacent Engineering teams including Electrical, SW/FW, Systems, and Manufacturing and external ODM partners to ensure product requirements are met. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Master’s degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering of a mid to high volume automotive grade product. Ability to lead and influence teams, and triage customer specifications to internal requirements. Knowledge of power electronics principles, components, and systems in automotive applications. Familiarity with design for reliability/FMEA concepts, PCBAs/electrical systems, and firmware/controls. Experience in thermal analysis with an understanding of fundamentals of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics. Experience with DFMA, and fabrication technologies including injection molding, sheet metal, die casting, 3D printing, etc. Experience with thermal and structural analysis design tool (e.g. SolidWorks, Simulation & Flow). Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally including with manufacturing, design, and industrial designers. This includes collaboration with team members who are remotely located (e.g., North America, Europe, Asia). Must have work experience in the Automotive industry (OEM, Tier1, or Tier2). J-OEM experience highly preferred. Strong communication in both Japanese and English, written and verbal. Experience working with customers in a technical environment.
