Position: Medical Translator The working hours for the Medical Translator position are as follows: Work days: Generally consist of eight (8) hours a day. Work week: Generally required five (5) days each week (Monday through Friday), excluding US holidays. Total hours: The total number of hours worked will not exceed eighty (80) hours per two (2) week period. Lunch period: A lunch period is not considered a payable period, but it will be coordinated with the Facility Representative for Emergency Department (FRED). On-call hours: On-call hours, also known as non-core hours. Location: Forklift - Kadena AB, Japan Responsibilities: Provide translation services for emergency response, outpatient visits, inpatient translation, patient transfers, and other related translation services for the 18th Medical Group (MDG), also referred to as the "Medical Treatment Facility" (MTF). Perform translation duties in accordance with the MTF's operating instructions and Department of Defense (DoD) or Air Force (AF) guidance. Translate medical statements for outpatient, inpatient, and emergency procedures to be taken to Japanese clinics and doctors. Translate meetings between 18 MDG TRICARE Operations and Patient Administration (TOPA), executive staff, and off-base Japanese facilities regarding patient care agreements and billing. Translate medical/clinical information written in English and/or Japanese for customers of the 18 MDG, including documents from Japanese medical professionals. Translate Japanese technical medical information into English for various 18 MDG projects and programs. Act as a liaison between medical disaster teams and accepting Japanese medical facilities during Emergency Management (EM) scenarios and exercises. Assist with patient transfers, including obtaining daily/periodic medical reports and distributing them to appropriate offices within specified timelines. Maintain event logs containing translation requests and other related events. Requirements: Proficiency in English and Japanese, both spoken and written. Completion of a Medical Terminology course with a grade "C" or above or at least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Translator. Knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to effectively communicate with patients and medical staff. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and compliance for the privacy and confidentiality of health records. Ability to work collaboratively and maintain a professional and respectable manner at all times. Availability to work 24/7, including U.S. Federal and Japanese Legal Holidays. Knowledge of healthcare-related practices and procedures, as well as understanding DoD/AF guidelines. Additional Information: Required to be in compliance with health requirements, including immunizations and health screenings. The position requires both on-site and on-call services, with detailed documentation of translation activities. l must be prepared to use host country medical and dental services and abide by relevant regulations. Monthly summary sheets of on-call services and translation activities must be provided for payment.
